Hi I am learning and development manager in UK based Utility company. Would someone be able to provide clarity on a couple of aspects of "Apprenticeship standard for Project Controls Technician"? 1) Is there a time frame in terms of when the standard will be approved? 2) What level is the qualification? And do you have any academic requirements for the apprentices to have? E.g Specific subjects they have to have taken Thanks Richard

Hello Richard, The Project Controls Apprentice standard is yet to release, however; We have attempted our best to share our thoughts as below: The Level 3 apprenticeship will last between three and four years and is designed to equip young people with the knowledge and skills both they and industry need. On completion, the apprentices can choose to apply for membership of the Association of Cost Engineers (ACostE) as a Graduate Member. The apprenticeship is also designed to meet the professional standards of the Engineering Council, enabling an apprentice to register as an Engineering Technician (EngTech), provided he or she has suitable engineering experience. With further training following on from the apprenticeship, individuals may choose to specialize in specific sectors or related roles which could lead to membership of other related professional bodies. It is expected that the standard will be released sometime in Sept 2017. Qualification is set by individual employers, entry requirements will typically include a minimum of 5 GCSE grades A* - C (or equivalent qualifications) including mathematics; English (Language). Trailblazer has proposed to cap at £18 K and we understand this is accepted by Govt. This is to be funded by digital vouchers issued to employers against 0.5% levy being charged from this FY. Prior to taking the end-point assessment candidates must achieve level 2 English and maths and must attain a Level 3 Diploma in project control practice.
